Contributors Welcomed

Hey All
It had always been my hope that I alone could keep this blog going with news and pics. Sadly, that has not been the case.
I have decided to invite all of you to become contributors. There are a couple of ways to contribute.

You Can:

  1. Send me stories/images/what ever and I will post them.
  2. Become a Site Author. This allows you to post new stories and pictures but requires the Administrator to put online.
  3. Become a Site Contributor. This allows you to post directly online.

I would really welcome input. I think this blog has a real potential to grow into something more if people are interested.

Family Photos: Reunion 2009 Volume 1

Better late than never they say. Seems like it is the song of my life some days.

Be that as it may. Onward & upward.

I think we all had  a good time at the reunion. Good food, weather, beer and times.

From a very joyful day.

Old Photos Fourth of July 1970

Most family members older than 30 remember the Fourth of July reunions with great joy. They were some really fun times. Steamers, ‘italian’ sandwiches, watermelon and lockers full of soda and beer. The sound of canons mixed with firecrackers and horseshoes ringing. The smell of gun powder and olive oil.

How many faces can we identify in this photo? I certainly recognize my brother Bill. Not really sure beyond his face though. Any takers?

Old Photos. Emma and Lon

I would be quite remiss if I did not post some pictures of Emma and Lon here in short order.  After all, were it not for them, I would not have an Alewife Cove to live in or write about. Sadly, they were both gone before I arrived. I wish I could have known them.

As you can see, there are ‘others’ in this image. I know who they are and will share the whole image in a later post.

Old Photos Whosit Edition. Telling Tall Tales?

Here is one from the other end of the beach. I cannot name a single face but it looks to me like the fella on the left may be a storyteller.

Looks like someone may be spinning a yarn...

So, fellow Alewife Cove folks, any ideas on this charming group?

Old Photos Whosit Edition. Wedding Bells

Well. I must say the first go of this went well. But,that was only the beginning.

Today the wedding bells are ringing. I have a series of bridal shower and wedding photos. I have no idea who the happy couple are.

Who is the happy couple?

Are they still with us? Are they still together?

Old Pictures – Beach Blanket Bingo Edition (Updated)

Fun in the sun circa the 50's

Fun in the sun circa the 50's. "Her Cottage' in the background

Okay, I know these pictures are from a time before the Beach movies but they play to the same theme of fun on the beach.

I cannot identify anyone in these images other than my mother who is in center in the shot below.(3_4_09, The tanned babe with the great legs is Carolyn ‘Kappy’ Tucker) I think most, if not all, of the guys in these shots are British sailors from the HMS Sheffield. There are several images in this group that show my mother getting cozy with the gent at the right in the image below and he has a sailors uniform on. Also, there are images of a warship docked at Maine State Pier in Portland and it clearly says HMS Sheffield on one of them. Are there any elderly British gents out there who remember spending some time with some folks on the beach while on a port call to Portland Maine in the early to mid fifties?

The guys were wearing some tiny speedos then eh?

Beach PartyPhoto’s like the one above are interesting in the way they document the changes on the beach. The distance from the sand to the lawn is twice as much now.

Old Pictures – Whosit Edition (UPDATED)

As I go through old family photos, I am often asking myself “Who is that”.  So, I figure the InterTubes and these blog things might be able to help me answer that question. This will be the first of many to come. I encourage family members to send images they may have with unidentified persons in them.

The sparkling eyed girl with Lon is Nancy Murray Johnson. Now, we just need to determine where they are.

Lon and who?
